For those of you who have benn lucky enough to travel with Sevan to either Provence or Paris or the Netherlands and Belgium, he now invites you and all art lovers to join him in Venice, Italy.

Join Sevan on an in-depth visit to this romatic city, with its quirky means of transportation, ridged bridges, many important churches, museums and public spaces.

During the Renaissance, Venice was a prosperous and powerful maritime republic. The wealth generated from trade and commerce enabled the city to become a significant center of art patronage. Wealthy merchants and the Venetian government commissioned numerous artworks, supporting the flourishing of artistic talent and the development of the Venetian School of Painting, which had a profound impact on the art world.

Our tour will put a special focus on artists like Giovanni Bellini, Titian, Tintoretto, and Veronese, whose works are found all over Venice, not just in museums, but in churches and palaces. To view art in its original setting, as intended by the artist themselves, undisturbed for hundreds of years, is a particular experience, charged with deep emotion. Venice is one of those rare places on Earth where this experience can be had so intensely and so extensively.

In addition to its rich artistic heritage, we will also learn about and admire Venice's architecture, which is a blend of various styles, including Gothic, Byzantine, and Renaissance. The city's buildings are often characterized by intricate facades, beautiful arches, and unique designs. The lack of cars has allowed Venice to preserve its historic urban layout, with narrow winding streets, frequent bridges big and small, and picturesque squares, which we will discover through several guided walking tours.

A day trip outside Venice will include a true “pilgrimage” for art lovers: The Scrovegni Chapel in Padua that houses the best-preserved frescos by Giotto, the forefather of Italian Renaissance. Giotto’s innovations found here have moved art  out of the stiff, flat Byzantine and medieval styles toward more naturalistic three-dimensionality, emotion, and human drama in the figures and scenes depicted.

There is no other way to put it: Visiting Venice is a magical experience as it is home to a wealth of artistic, historical, and architectural treasures. Add to that some island hopping, endless opportunities for stunning photographs, and the flavors of its unique cuisine (seafood risotto, cicchetti, fritto misto…), and you’ve got the promise of a memorable and enchanting journey.

And because it is Italy, we must have a licensed guide with us at all times when visiting sites.  Sevan and the various guides will share story-telling and information.   In this way, we should gain twice as much knowledge from two different perspecitves.

And as always with Sevan’s trip, the Venice trip will be prefaced by a series of zoom meetings, dates and time to be determined.

Joan Hill
Owner, Host & Director

In 2008, the seed of Artful Journeys was planted in her brain, when Joan brought together all of her life's passions, her love of music, an affinity for the beautiful things in life, and an ability to organize events to give birth to Artful Journeys, a program of art education trips for the soul.

Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was very difficult, especially succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
