Join Chef Liza Greifinger in Santa Fe as we explore the food and cooking methods of the southwestern USA and its Mexican influence. During this hands-on experience, Liza will teach fundamental cooking skills using the best and freshest local ingredients. Liza encourages having fun in the kitchen while gaining a better understanding of ingredients and how to cook with them.

The tastes and skills learned will translate any time you are in the kitchen so you can introduce new flavors and ways of cooking at home.

Our workshop day will begin with Liza leading us through markets and food stores as she finds the best local ingredients with which to fashion our meals. We will then return to the professional kitchen at the Convention Center and, under the guidance of her skilled expertise, proceed to create masterful dishes. Then we will all break bread together, discuss the complexities of our creations, and enjoy each other’s company and shared passion: food!

Not only will we be cooking and learning new kitchen skills and delving into the southwestern cuisine, but we will have the opportunity to explore the local culture. Join us as we visit the farmers' markets in town and the art scene with its many boutiques, galleries (traditional, contemporary, and native), working studios, and museums.

After the morning cooking lessons, we will dine on our creations at the Convention Center. Dinners will be at various locales, to better acquaint you with the lively cuisine that the Santa Fe restaurant world has to offer.

accommodations

ACCOMMODATIONS

We will be staying at The Inn on the Alameda, a smallish hotel 5 minutes from the center of town. In the early 1980s, Joe Schepps purchased the site of the Inn on the Alameda with the desire to create a space with beautiful gardens, cozy rooms, and a place to showcase the best of Southwestern culture, hospitality, and relaxation. Mr. Schepps calls this the Culture of Care, with a loyal staff and many repeat guests.

Each room and suite at the Inn reflects the history, romance, and old southwestern style of Old Santa Fe. Each morning begins with a sumptuous breakfast buffet and afternoons with a friendly reception for all.

The best of Santa Fe is just a short stroll from the Inn on the Alameda. We are in the heart of the city, just steps from the city’s best restaurants, galleries, and attractions.

Joan Hill
Owner, Host, & Director

Years ago, it was suggested to Joan that she might offer an art program, and she jumped at the chance of a lifetime. Bringing together all of her life's passions, the development and administration of Artful Journeys is an exhilarating process for Joan.

Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was an efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was difficult, especially succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
