ARTS MEDLEY IV:
Taught by Raisy Derzie
Wednesdays, at 2 pm, EDT
March 3–April 7, 2021
Registration Status: OPEN
Tour Cost: $15 per session or $75 for series of 6
During this series of hands-on art classes, Raisy will concentrate on drawing and painting the human figure. However, it's an art medley, so don't be surprised if Raisy brings out a landscape or still life to paint. Grab a gel pen, some pencils, water colors, oils or acrylics and a piece of paper - almost anything will do - and take on the challenge of putting a medium to paper to learn to see and to express yourself.
The series will begin at 2:oo pm on Wednesday, March 3, 2021 and will continue each week through April 7. Each class will last about 1.5 hours and will be presented through Zoom. You will not be expected to finish a drawing or painting during the session; you can work on it (and others, if you wish) during the week.

YOUR HOSTS
Raisy Derzie
Instructor
Born and raised in Lebanon and after teaching for few years French and art I came to New York
in the late 60’s with my husband.
I studied at the New York School of Interior Design in Manhattan but when we relocated to Long Island I started painting again and met some wonderful and talented artists who became
my long time friends!
I was also introduced to printmaking and worked at the Ruth Leef Studio in Douglaston. There I produced many prints. Two of them, “The Kurdish Family” and “The Protest” were reproduced in the NY Times with a great article by Phillis Braff.
I was also a long time member of the Graphic Eye Gallery in Port Washington where I had numerous solo show including the display of nine panels that constituted the decor for an off off Broadway play, “Rewriting Her Life” by Barbara Masry.
Three years ago, I discovered a program on the IPad called “Brushes,” and I started experimenting and producing numerous large pieces printed on archival paper. This is the method that David Hockney employed and thereby legitimized this new art form. One of my large works is “Tea time with cousin Berty” and also appeared in the NY Times.
Joan Hill
Owner, Host, & Director
In 2008, the seed of Artful Journeys was planted in her brain, when Joan brought together all of her life's passions, her love of music, an affinity for the beautiful things in life with an ability to organize events to give birth to Artful Journeys, a program of art education trips for the soul.
Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was difficult, especially succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
