Language is an essential part of each country's personality and art. Knowing a bit of the language of the land significantly enhances one's appreciation of the culture and people. It helps one be more independent, and puts one more at ease when interacting with locals. Art and culture are also often best appreciated in its original language (for example, Dante's work has the most impact in Italian).

The current group has been together for over 3 years; they started with very rudimentary Italian, and now  are speaking fluently.  That's pretty good for not setting foot in Italy, where total immersion could happen.  We've been having so many laughs at our own mistakes under the tutelage of the forgiving Vilma, whom I met at Pensione Bencista in Fiesole, outside of Florence, while on a painting trip.

Food seems to be our main topic of conversation!

So, bring your recipes and a good cup of espresso and join us as we  continue with our eighteenth series of Italian classes! This series will build upon our progress thus far towards conversing entirely in Italian! New students who are able to converse in Italian (even on a basic level)  are welcome.

Vilma will teach conversational Italian in an 8-week series, starting Wednesday, May 1 at 11:00 EST.   The only requirement to participate in these classes is that you are willing to converse in Italian.

Each class will last approximately 1 hour.   Everyone in the class will have ample opportunity  to speak , answer and ask questions, and understand the spoken word.  Vilma has been known to give homework ... YIkes!  The cost for the 8-week series is $200

Andiamo! Join us starting May 1 and continuing through June 19 in this eighteenth series of conversational Italian with Vilma.

Vilma Noga

My name is Vilma, and I live near Florence, Italy. I have a bachelor's degree in Foreign Languages, Literature, and Intercultural Studies from the University of Florence. I speak fluent Italian, English, German, French, and Albanian, and I teach the Italian language.

I worked for many years as the Reception Manager in a hotel near Florence. While working with tourists from all over the world, I improved my own language skills. My day-to-day interactions with the hotel guests allowed me to better understand the difficulties that foreign speakers face while learning a new language.

I personalize my lessons according to the student's needs. I stress the importance of the spoken language, and we interact with one another in a friendly conversation–laughter included! I encourage everyone to speak immediately, from beginners to those with an advanced level of Italian. I believe that speaking another language is an enriching experience for everyone. Two years ago, I created my Italian online classes, which have been very successful. After much positive feedback from my students, I have also expanded my practice to include Italian language and culture group workshops and cooking classes. I also lead small group tours around Florence to teach about our magnificent art and architecture.

I truly enjoy teaching, and look forward to working with you!
