The Salzburg Fortress.  Ein fester Burg!

Who not indulge your senses in the creations of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Hundertwasser, Klimt and many, many other artists and musicians while in Austria?  Mozart was born in Salzburg and spent his young years there, when his father wasn’t showcasing Amadeus around the royal courts of Paris and London.  Beethoven found his fame in Vienna; Mozart added to his significant resumé there.  What did Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, Berg, Schoenberg, Weber and Bruckner accomplish there?  That’s what we’ll find out on our trip in September of 2022.

There’s a lot of music in Vienna; there’s also months’ worth of art and other museums.  But we will try to cover as much as possible in the week we are in Vienna; we can get around Salzburg in 2 days fine.

Upon arrival into Munich’s airport, the group will be transferred to The Weisse Taube in Salzburg, where we will stay for the first 2 nights.  During the days, we’ll visit everything Mozart – his birthplace and residence,  (maybe some of the many shops selling Mozart paraphernalia), and last, but not least, the fortress overlooking the town for a dinner and concert.

On our third day, we transfer to the Hotel Beethoven in Vienna, where we can unpack for the rest of the trip.  In this very accessible town, we’ll have a walking music tour; visits to the homes and museums of the 3 most prominent musicians (although the less famous would not agree, I’m sure); a tour of the Musikverein and excursions to the Esterhazy Palace and the Schoenbrunn Palace with its nearby Belvedere Museums. You will have free time to visit any museum(s) you wish in the Museum Quartier or beyond.

In addition, every day we will have a musical event;  these are not known at this time because schedules are not yet published.  However, it will not be difficult to find events – even now concerts occur daily.    I am hoping to schedule one night at the opera, for which we should be a bit gussied up!  More on that as firmer details can be made.

We will end our journey to Austria with an Artful Journeys Gala Farewell Dinner.  Departure will be from the Vienna Airport on September 23, 2022.

Joan Hill
Owner, Host, & Director

Years ago, it was suggested to Joan that she might offer an art program, and she jumped at the chance of a lifetime. Bringing together all of her life's passions, the development and administration of Artful Journeys is an exhilarating process for Joan.

Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was very difficult, especially succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
