April 27 - May 8, 2026
Trip Status: OPEN
Tour Cost: $6,995
Activity Level: Moderate
Join Joe and indulge your senses in the creations of Mozart, Beethoven, Haydn, Hundertwasser, Klimt and many, many other artists and musicians while in Austria. Although Mozart was born in Salzburg and spent his young years there, he spent his short adulthood in Vienna. Beethoven also found his fame in Vienna. What did they, Haydn, Schubert, Brahms, and other composers accomplish there? That’s what we’ll find out on our trip in April and May of 2026.
We will arrive in Vienna on April 28 and stay at the aptly named Hotel Beethoven in Vienna, where we can unpack for the duration of the trip. In this very accessible town, we’ll have a walking music tour; visits to the homes and museums of the three most prominent musicians (although the less famous would not agree, I’m sure); and tour the Musikverein. We will also visit the grand churches of Vienna, where many concerts are held, including St. Michaels and its grand organ. We’ll take long looks at the opulent era of the Habsburg dynasty: its Hofburg palace in the town center, the Sisi Museum, Schoenbrunn Castle and the Belvedere Museum. Perhaps you’d like to take a gander at the elegant, dancing horses during their performance at the Spanish Riding School…
Are you tired yet? If you’re not museum-ed out, you can use your Vienna Pass to visit any museum(s) you wish in the Museum Quartier or beyond during your free time, unless, of course, you want to take a well-deserved snooze.
In addition, most days or evenings, we will have a musical event. I am hoping to schedule one night at the opera, for which we should be a bit gussied up! More on that as firmer details can be made.
We will end our journey to Austria with an Artful Journeys Gala Farewell Dinner. Departure will be from the Vienna Airport on May 8, 2026.

This Artful Journey is in conjunction with the Cape Symphony's Passport to Vienna concert.

Joan Hill
Owner, Host, & Director
Years ago, it was suggested to Joan that she might offer an art program, and she jumped at the chance of a lifetime. Bringing together all of her life's passions, the development and administration of Artful Journeys is an exhilarating process for Joan.
Joan was born and raised in the apple country of the Hudson River Valley in New York; her father was a gentle, very tolerant, educated land surveyor, and her mother was the efficient business administrator and home engineer. The youngest of four children, Joan was encouraged to pursue anything she wanted, but also to do her best. Sometimes that was very difficult, especially succeeding three very accomplished siblings.
